- Three Nigerians planned to leave Nigeria to Spain hiding in a vessel
- Their plan failed as the vessels stopped at Ghana and they were found hiding inside
- They have been arrested by the Tema port authority
Three Nigerians identified as Kelvin Popoola 26, Stephen Nuta 28 and Isaac Daniel 32 attempted to get a smooth passage to Spain in search of greener pasture. So, they sneaked into an MV Unity vessel from Apapa Port in Lagos.
However, they found themselves at the shores of Nigeria’s neighbour, as the vessel headed towards Ghana to offload some goods at the Port of Tema.
In the course of the goods being discharged, the suspects were seen where they hid behind the vessel’s propeller
According to the suspects, they were able to get on the vessel by evading the Apapa port workers and sneaking in.
They seemed prepared for the journey, though, as they had a hammer, alcoholic beverage, and provisions with them.
According to the reports of the security officials, Isaac Daniels was previously arrested in 2019 for something related and deported to Nigeria.
According to Ghanaweb, Tema Port Security Manager, Col Punamane, said the issue of stowaways being debarked at the Tema Port is “growing into a major affair”.
Furthermore, he stated that he wants measures to be put in place to ensure the act of stowaway doesn’t become attractive to the youth.
