The governor also revealed that some of his close aides also tested positive for the virus.

He, furthermore, added that they are currently asymptomatic, but have since gone into isolation in line with the directives laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The governor instructed his Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, to take over the ‘coordination’ of the state’s fight against the pandemic while he’s in self-isolation.

Umahi appealed to the people of Ebonyi state to take the NCDC protocols more seriously while stating that he’s working from home and will conduct all meetings virtually.

“Today, 4th July, my result and some of my close aides’ tests returned positive for COVID-19,” the Governor wrote in a press statement obtained by NaijaHomeBased.

“My deputy takes over the frontline coordination of our determined fight against this pandemic to protect our people.

“However, there are no regrets and nothing is to be feared as our people will not be abandoned at a trying period like now.

“I am working from home and all my meetings will be through virtual. Soonest, we will all test negative and reunite.

Umahi is the sixth state governor that would be infected with the novel virus.
