How to Check if Your National ID Card is Ready in Nigeria

Published on

Find out how to check if your national ID card is ready for collection by following this guide.

In Nigeria, several people experience delay in the disbursement of their permanent e-ID cards. You wait, wait and wait but don’t receive any SMS or email notification telling you it’s ready for collection.

Or, probably, you lost the phone number you have registered with NIMC during the course of your application and, as a result, can’t receive notifications.

Whichever the case may be we’ll show you a way around it. You’ll soon discover how to check if your Nigerian national Identity Card (ID card) is ready for collection, without having to leave your house.

Formerly, you’d have had to visit your collection point, which is usually located at the exact enrollment centre where you registered; however, all thanks to the internet, a lot has changed in recent years.

On the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) website you can, as a matter of fact, solve several national ID card related issues.

But let’s start by solving this one in particular…

How to check if your Nigerian National ID card is ready:

Step 1. Firstly, visit NIMC official portal for checking ID card status using touch.nimc.gov.ng/.

Step 2. Click on “proceed” when the site demands for a response.

check the status of your national eID card

Step 3. Enter your First name, Last name and your National Identification Number (NIN). You can locate your NIN on your temporary national ID slip.

Entering NIMC enrollment details

Step 4. Finally, click on the ‘check now’ button and wait for the network to load.

After completing all the above steps, you’ll receive a notification on the website telling your if your national ID card is ready or not.

What to do when your national ID Card is ready?

If your national ID card is ready, then congratulations!

The next step will be to visit the exact enrollment centre at which you registered for collection.

If, as the case may be, you don’t live near that enrollment centre anymore, then visit any enrollment centre at which you wish to receive the card and demand for a transfer.

To request for a transfer you must go along with your temporary NIN slip. Also, you must be able to present the notification telling you your card is ready.

Fortunately, there are no charges for transfer at the moment. The only thing you have to do is complete the card transfer form that will be presented to you by the person on seat.

What to do if your Nigerian national ID card is not ready?

If, unfortunately, you received a notification telling you your card isn’t ready, the first thing you must do is check again. But, this time, make sure you double-check the information to make sure you made no mistakes in any of your names or your NIN.

If after that you still received a notification telling you your national ID card is not ready, then it really isn’t.

All you have to do from then on is to wait patiently and try some other time.

Important notice>> Ensure not to enroll for the second time, as it will be considered a criminal offence by NIMC.
