Professor James Nwoye Adichie, the father of the famous novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, is dead. He was 88.
According to reports from The Nation, he died in Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday night.
The professor of Statistics who celebrated his birthday on 1st of March hailed from Abba, Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.
He was a Professor of Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
Professor Adichie was admitted at the Chira Memorial Hospital in Awkuzu, Oyi local government area of Anambra State.
The scholar was a member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) since 1978. He was also a member of Governing Council of ISI from 1985-1987.
The member of the Education Committee (ISI) 1987 became a Professor of Statistics in 1976. As a matter of fact, he was the first Nigerian Professor of Statistics.
After his retirement, he had been living in Nsukka, Enugu State.
