Just as the news of about 49 corps members serving punishments for different crimes is still making the rounds, others are making the headlines for good.

It has been reported that Festus Oluseye and Chinenye Okereke, corp members that were deployed to Ogun State in 2019, have renovated one health centre in the state.

The health centre located in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has been abandoned for some time now.

In addition to renovating the health centre, the duo also drilled two boreholes for inhabitants of Agbado community in the state.

The coordinator of the scheme in the state, Dr Belinda Faniyi, announced this during the passing-out ceremony of the 2019 Batch A Corps members.

The duo was announced as best corp members for their acts in the ceremony which took place at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

The coordinator noted that it has been their culture from time immemorial to reward commendable corp members, who have been exceptional during their one year of service.

She also noted that out of the 3,987 corps members that were deployed to the state in 2019, two died during the service.

Dr Faniyi said, “The scheme has an age-long culture of recognising and rewarding excellent performance during the service year, as well as disciplining those that run foul of the NYSC by-laws.

“It is in this light of the foregoing that 27 corps members of the batch that absconded from service shall have their certificates withheld and shall repeat the service whenever they show up, while three that ran foul of the by-laws shall serve punishment accordingly,” she said.

Giving his remarks, Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun congratulated all the exiting corp members for completing the one-year mandatory national service.

According to him, it was in realisation of the aspirations of the country’s founding fathers.

Speaking with The PUNCH, Oluseye and Okereke stated that they gathered the money from well-meaning persons in the state to carry out the project.

In any case, They urged the State Government to repay their good deeds by giving them jobs in the state.
