There are several courses you can study without physics in Nigeria. In other words, even if you failed or don’t have a credit pass in physics, you can apply and gain admission into the university to study those courses.
Universities in Nigeria demand at least 5 credit pass, which in most cases include Mathematics & English Language.
As we all know, the core science subjects students in Nigerian secondary schools do include, Chemistry, Physics & biology.
The requirement for gaining admission into several engineering or science fields require at least one of those core courses.
Thing is, not every student can get a credit pass in all of those core science subjects, which is why you need to know what your options are no matter the situation you face
Some of the questions our audience have asked lately include:
- what are courses that don’t require physics?
- Are there Engineering courses without physics?
- Are there universities ot polytechnics that accept pass in physics?
- What are the science courses you can study without physics?
First of all, bear it in mind that we shall only be talking about science courses, since it’s obvious you can study any art or commercial course without needing physics.

What about Engineering courses?
Recently, I received an email from a Nigerian student asking me if it’s possible to do Engineering without physics.
The lad in question wishes to become an Electrical / Electronics Engineer; however, he failed Physics in his SSCE (Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination).
Explaining further, he asked if it was possible to study any other engineering course without a credit pass in Physics even if it isn’t his preferred Electrical Electronics Engineering.
Can you study physics without Engineering in Nigeria?
The simple answer to that question is No. As far as Nigerian Universities are concerned, all engineering fields demand at least a credit pass in Physics, Maths and English.
Nevertheless, we recommend you check your JAMB brochure to see all the courses in your desired institution and their requirements.
Universities & Polytechnics that accept pass in Physics?
Requirements for courses have slight variations, depending on the university or polytechnic you intend to study at. Therefore, we recommend you check your JAMB brochure or any university website to confirm the specific requirements for for your desired course.
Important notice: Although you may not need to possess a credit pass in Physics to study the courses in our list, you may still at some point offer Physics-related courses during your study years in school.
