The United Bank For Africa (UBA), yesterday, announced the donation of a massive ₦5 billion as relief support across West Africa.

At the moment, Nigeria has only announced 70 cases of the novel coronavirus. However, that figure is expected to increase drastically over the next couple of days.

As such, the Federal Government of Nigeria has imposed strict measures to help curtail a further spread of the deadly virus.

Those measures, however, will affect several people and businesses across the nation.

Due to that, several wealthy and influential persons have continued to donate huge sums of money to help alleviate the looming financial crises Nigeria and indeed many small businesses will face.

“United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) today announced a donation of over 5 billion Naira (U$D14 million), through the UBA Foundation, to catalyse a comprehensive pan-African response to the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic,” UBA wrote in a Press release.

“The donation will provide significant and much-needed support to Nigeria and 19 other African countries, by supplying relief materials, critical care facilities, and financial support to Governments.

The amount each state gets

• The Lagos State Government will receive N1 billion (U$D2.8 million)
• Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja will receive N500 million (U$D1.4 million)
• N1 billion (U$D2.8 million) will be distributed across the remaining 35 states in Nigeria

Meanwhile, the giant bank plans to distribute N1.5 billion (U$D4.2 million) to the remaining other countries with UBA’s presence across Africa.
