The United Nations has come out to deny that popular Nigerian Musician, Oladapo Oyebanjo alias D’Banj, is a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.

The Director of Information, United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria, Joseph Kayanja, revealed this in an email chat.

In 2012, D’Banj’s agents had claimed that the artist was the first Nigerian to be appointed a UN Youth Ambassador for Peace.

This denial is coming after the rape allegations levelled against D’Banj by Seyitan Babatayo.

After the allegation, there was an online petition calling on the UN to strip the musician of the title.

As of 24th of June, the petition on Change.org has been signed by over 22,000 people.

According to The Punch, the UN said that D’Banj was never at any time given the title of ambassador by the UN.

The email read in part, “I would like to confirm that the said Mr. Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’Banj is NOT a UN Ambassador. The title was accorded to him by an obscure UN youth association which has nothing to do with the United Nations. I hope this clarifies.”

Benjamin Ese, Seyitan’s friend, in a Twitter thread in early June, had told the story of how D’Banj allegedly raped Seyitan at Glee Hotel, Lagos two years ago – in December 2018.

According to the story, Seyitan had attended an all white party where the singer was also present.

D’banj then approached the lady, offered her money and asked her out for the night, but she refused.

However, “D’Banj drove all the way from Eko hotel where he was lodged and came down to glee hotel in Victoria Island at midnight 2.40 am and collected the spare key from the receptionist,” the story read.

She said D’Banj allegedly “got into my friend’s room and forcefully threatened he would walk her out of the room naked, kept his fingers in her Vagina, and repeatedly raped her.”

D’banj who responded to the allegations through his lawyers asked for N100m compensation.

But he was later accused of using policemen to abduct Seyitan and force her to retract her story.
