The Department of State Security (DSS) in Kano State has arrested a 29-year-old man, Sule Arome for purportedly presenting himself as Assistant Commissioner of the Department in charge of the recruitment exercise.
Mr Alhassan Muhammad, the states’ DSS Director, revealed this while parading the suspect in Kano on Thursday.
According to Mr Muhammad, Operatives of the service arrested the man when they were raiding a criminal hide-out at Hausawa quarters, Zoo Road, Kano State.
In addition to that, he stated that the alleged impersonator had duped four persons on the guise of assisting their recruitment into the service.
He said the suspect collected N15,000 each from the four victims as recruitment fees
He also collected N6,000 for operational suits and asked them to buy training kits.
Not only did he extort them, but he also went further to instruct the victims to report to Kaduna State on 25th January 2020.
In any case, the unsuspecting victims went to Kano, spent three days at Kawo motor park not knowing where to go from there.
Mr Yakubu said, “We got the report when the victims returned from their unsuccessful trips to Kaduna, where we mobilised operatives and raided the black spot where we apprehended Arome,”
He added that “as soon as investigation was completed, the suspect would be charged to court.”
Speaking to newsmen, the suspect, Arome, said he defrauded four persons seeking recruitment into the service
Also, he stated that prior to this, he had been arrested by Hisbah operatives (Sharia Police).
However, he had to lie to them, saying that he was an operative of the service before he was released.
The suspect is reportedly remorseful and promised not to engage or perpetrate a similar crime in the future.
