Following the non-stop spread of the deadly novel coronavirus, the normal camping of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) members have been halted.

The Federal Government has directed the immediate cessation of the ongoing National Youth Corps Service orientation camps nationwide over coronavirus fears.

The 2020 Batch A Stream One NYSC members arrived their respective camps on the 10th of March and are supposed to leave three weeks after.

However, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on Wednesday, said the NYSC members would be released to resume at their places of primary assignment.

According to him, the closure was a precautionary measure to avoid further spread of coronavirus.

He said, “Today across the country, the NYSC Orientation camps will be closed and Youth Corpers will be paid and sent to their places of primary assignment.

“This again is a precautionary measure on the part of the government to check the spread of COVID-19. The DG NYSC will provide details,” he tweeted.

Some NYSC members disclosed to THe Punch that they were asked to pack their belongings on Tuesday evening.

Also, some of them said their deployment letters were handed over to the corps members early on Wednesday morning.

The NYSC management has confirmed the report via its official Facebook page.

They have instructed the corps members to commence activities at their Primary Place of Assignment right away.

The management also noted that they will be called back to camp when the situation of things as regards coronavirus gets better.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: SUSPENSION OF THE ON-GOING ORIENTATION COURSE

Sequel to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic which led to the cancellation of the National Sports Festival, Management of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme wishes to announce the suspension of the on-going Orientation Course for the 2020 Batch “A” Stream 1 Corps Members.

Therefore, the Corps Members shall be posted to commence their primary assignments forthwith, while they shall be invited back to the Orientation Camps when the situation improves, just like it happened a few years ago when the Nation was confronted by the Ebola virus threat.

Management wishes to state that no Corps Member or Camp Official has contracted the virus,
