GTBank Token: Getting the device or Generating one Using USSD

Published on

Do you feel like you need to get a GTBank token? Do you want to know how you can activate and use a security token for your GTB account? Right here, you’ll find answers related to how tokens work with GTBank accounts.

Guaranty Trust Bank, popularly known as GTB or GTBank, is one of the biggest banks in Nigeria. It also has a presence in several African countries and around the world.

If you perform large transactions (transfers, bills payment) on your GTB account, then you certainly need a token to maximize the security of your account.

The GTBank Security Token gives you complete protection against hackers, online thefts, and fraudsters. Once you own it, it becomes the key that grants you full access to carry out 3rd party transfers and payments online via the GTBank internet banking platform at any time.

What is a GTBank token?

A GTBank token is a small device used in generating security codes needed to complete very important transactions on account where is activated.

Alternatively, there’s a USSD code you can dial on your registered line to generate a soft token for quick use.

737 code for Generating GTB token

If you’re looking to generate the quick one using USSD:

  • Dial *737# on your registered line.
  • select 11 for ‘Next’ and send
  • Enter 5 for ‘Generate Token’ and send.

Thereafter, you’ll receive a quick token code on the phone number and email you have registered with your GTB account. In most cases, the code will expire in 10 minutes, so you have to use it as soon as possible.

How to get a GTBank token device:

  • Walk to any GTBank branch near you, meet the customer care representative and demand for token request form.
  • Complete and submit the form
  • Wait till your request is processed, and you might receive the token right there.

In most cases, you will be asked certain important questions, which shall be used to confirm your suitability for a token.

Activativating the device

  • Once you’ve picked up your token at the bank, visit the GTB internet banking portal.
  • Login to the portal using your Internet Banking ID and password.
  • Under the settings menu, locate the token activation option and click on it.
  • Enter your token ID numbers without the hyphen and follow other necessary steps to complete its activation.

Shortly after, you’ll receive a message congratulating you on the successful acknowledgment of your new token device.

Using the device

  • Login to your Internet banking portal to initiate any desired transaction.
  • After which you will be required to input a 6-digit code in a defined field to validate and conclude the transaction.
  • Press the white button on the token to generate the 6 digit code.
  • Enter the code in the space provided to complete your transaction.

You need the token to complete the following transactions:

There’s so much you can do with a token device acquired from GTBank. But the biggest perk, I must confess, that comes with owning a token is the increased security it gives to your account.

If you use a strong password for your internet banking account, then it is highly difficult for a hacker to gain access to it.

However, if any hacker by chance gains access to your account, he/she will not be able to complete transactions, in as much as they don’t have your token with them.
