Before you can travel outside Nigeria, you need to own a passport. The reason is, it is a means of identification for Nigerians living in the diaspora.

After applying, it is important to keep track of your status online. Thereby knowing when it’s ready and when it will reach your collection point.
How to check if your Nigerian passport is ready online:
- Visit NIS portal for checking passport status
- Enter your Passport application ID and reference number
- Click on Submit.
After completing the steps above, all the information regarding the readiness of your NP will display on your screen.
Note: You can find the Passport application id and reference number in the email you received from NIS after application.
Where will you receive it?
In general, applicants can receive their passports at the collection point they chose during registration.
In some countries, you may receive it at your doorstep; that’s if you paid for shipping. If you didn’t, then you have to visit the embassy where you completed your biometric capturing to collect it.
