In this exclusive NHB special guide, you’ll learn how to unbar an MTN line. If your line has been barred from recharging, then it will take a while before it is lifted automatically; however, you can hasten this whole process by following this guide.
Generally, it is rare for an MTN line to enter recharge barring, except you entered the wrong recharge PIN up to three times.
On the other hand, you could easily find yourself guessing recharge PINs in cases whereby you’ve overscratched your card.

Therefore, if you were barred from recharging because you were trying to cheat mtn, then you must avoid doing that next time.
How to unbar your MTN line?
To unbar your MTN line you don’t have to do anything. All you need to do is wait for just one hour.
However, if you feel like the wait time is too much and wish to hasten the whole process, then follow any of the steps below:
- Call 180 and dial 9 to return to the main menu.
- Dial 0 to speak with a customer care representative.
- Tell them you wish to remove your SIM from recharge barring.
- Your line will be removed from recharge barring that same instant.
Note: Sometimes it might take a while before customer care attends to your call, depending on the number of people waiting for support. Just wait patiently, and you’ll be attended to.
Formerly, it was possible to unbar an mtn line using the self-care portal. However, due to inconsistency of the portal, it is hard to provide a guide on it.
Reason is, MTN keeps changing key things on the portal and, at some point, unbarring using the self-care portal.
