The death of Remo Sta player, Tiyamiyu Kazeem, has led to a series of protests that have unsettled Shagamu. As such, the Inspector General of Police has responded by ordering an investigation into the cause of the player’s death.
The IGP, Mohammed Adamu, ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take over the investigation.
Meanwhile, the circumstances leading to Tiyamiyu Kazeem’s death have been unclear. According to the Police, he tried to run away and in the process got hit by a speeding vehicle.
However, Sanni Abubakar, who witnessed the death of Remo Stars Football Club player on Saturday, February 22, 2020, says the police lied about how his friend was killed at the hands of personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
In an interview with Punch, Sanni Abubakar insists it was one of the SARS officers that pushed the late footballer out of a moving vehicle, after which a vehicle coming from behind crushed him, leading to his death.
According to Sahara Reporters, the peaceful protest that held yesterday has led to the death of 3 protesters already.
Several Nigerians have expressed scepticism at the way the Nigeria Police are handling the investigation already.
A Twitter user called out the IGP, asking if he would have done anything if not for the protest. Meanwhile, he also called for the complete end of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) that has according to majority opinion heaped misery on innocent Nigerians.
Another user identified as Max called out the IGP, questioning him regarding the use of live bullet on protesters that has led to the death of three.
We will bring you all the updates as an investigation into this tragic event continues.
