Nigerians react as FG Begs Elon Musk for Ventilators on Twitter

Nigerians have been outraged after the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning took to Twitter to beg the CEO of Tesla, Elon Reeve Musk, for ventilators.

The popular technology entrepreneur had taken to the platform to reveal that they planned on donating FDA-approved ventilators worldwide within Tesla delivery regions.

“We have extra FDA-approved ventilators. Will ship to hospitals worldwide within Tesla delivery regions,” Elon Musk wrote in a tweet on March 31st.

“Device & shipping cost are free. Only requirement is that the vents are needed immediately for patients, not stored in a warehouse. Please let me or Tesla know,” he added.

The Nigerian government begged

To that effect, the Ministry of Fiance, Budget and National Planning, took to the comment section of the tweet to write, “Dear Elon Musk, Tesla Federal Government of Nigeria needs support with 100-500 ventilators to assist with COVID19 cases arising every day in Nigeria.

Angry reactions from Nigerians

Well, that piece of polite request has not gone down with a lot of Nigerians who have taken to Twitter to describe it as ‘an embarrassment’.

Here are some of the few angry reactions, who believe begging for ventilators is an embarrassment to the nation.

Some even claimed that if Elon Musk gave the ventilators to the government, they would only use them for politicians.

Nigeria isn’t the only country that begged

Meanwhile, Nigeria is not alone as, the embassy of Ukraine in the USA also begged for ventilators in the comment section of the post.

“Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe with population nearly 40 mln citizens,” the wrote. “The pandemic situation in Ukraine is approaching its peak, April is going to be the hardest. People in hospitals need ventilators. We are ready to cooperate!,” the tweet added.

Not just Ukraine, several other countries took to the comment section to beg gor ventilators.

In any case, the Federal Ministry of Finance has now deleted the tweet.
