JAMB & WAEC Subject Combination for Business Administration

In this post, we’ll talk about the subject combination for Business Administration, including O’level (WAEC, NECO, etc.) and JAMB UTME requirements.

In addition to that, we’ll provide answers to several questions we believe might be running through your mind.

Nigerian Universities have certain requirements when it comes to giving admissions to students to study Business Administration.

In general, candidates who wish to study Business Administration at any Nigerian University must have at least 5 credit passes in O’level that must include English Language and four other subjects.

However, there is no generally acceptable subject combination for the course, as many universities have waivers. To put it differently, some universities have introduced a slight twist to their specific requirements for studying Business Administration.

Bearing that in mind, it is extremely important to know the specific requirements for studying Business Administration before applying to any institution.

General requirements for studying Business Administration in Nigerian Universities

O’level subject requirements (WAEC, NECO, etc.)

To study Business Administration at any Nigerian university, you need at least 5 SSCE credit passes, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two from Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography, and Statistics.

Special consideration for the O’level requirements

  • UNIZIK accepts a pass in Economics
  • UNN – As in Banking and Finance.
  • UNIZIKaccepts English, Maths and any 3 relevant subjects.
  • EBSU, RSUST and NDU, PHC accept the same requirements for Accountancy
  • PHC does not accept commercial subjects.
  • ABUJA and COOU accept Commerce in lieu of Economics
  • AUN same as in Finance
  • ABU requires five SSCE credit passes including English Language, Economics, Mathematics, and any other two subjects
  • PLSU – Same as in Accounting
  • AAUA requires two other credit passes in from Commerce, Accounting, Geography, and Government.
  • LAGOS requires credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any two of Financial Accounting, Government, Geography, CRS/IRS, Business Management.

JAMB UTME subject combination

Candidates who wish to apply for Business Administration at any Nigerian University must register for Mathematics, Economics plus any other subject in the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). As you must know by now, English Language is compulsory for all courses.

Special consideration for JAMB UTME subject combination

  • For Olabisi Onabanjo University applicants the third subject should be a Social Science subject.
  • UNN, COOU, and UYO have the same requirements as in Banking and Finance
  • UNIZIK doesn’t make Economics a compulsory subject.
  • EBSU, RSUST, and LAGOS accept the same requirements as in Accounting.
  • AUN same as in Finance
  • ABU requires Economics, Mathematics, and any Management or Social Science subjects.
  • EVANGEL accepts Mathematics or Economics plus any two relevant Arts or Social Science subjects.

Direct Entry Requirement (A’Level)

To gain admission to study Business Administration through Direct Entry, you need two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government, Geography or Statistics.

Special considerations and waivers for Direct Entry Students

  • Olabisi Onabanjo University accepts NCE/ND/HND.
  • UNN accepts AIB or other Professional qualifications and HND in relevant fields NCE, ND, or HND.
  • Gombe State University and UNN require two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and any other subject.
  • UYO accepts HND (lower credit) ND (Upper Credit) in relevant fields.
  • RSUST, IGBINEDION, EKSUand BSU – as in Accountancy.
  • ABU requires candidates wishing to specialize in Actuarial Science to have ‘A’ level Mathematics.
  • JOS accepts (lower credit), DELSU and BAYERO (upper credit) in relevant Discipline.
  • Benson Idahosa University accepts ND/HND credit pass in Business/Accounting or related fields.
  • PHC – No Direct Entry
  • OOU, EVANGEL and UYO –Same as in Banking and Finance.
  • ADSU – As in Public Administration.
  • UNIZIK accepts Mathematics but not Geography.
  • AAUA requires ‘A’ level pass in Economics or Business Administration.
  • UNIZIK requires applicants to possess UTME requirements.
  • MADONNA, EBSU and COOUaccept ND (not below lower credit), AIB and Degree/HND in a relevant field.
  • CALABAR accepts ND in Business Admin at credit/merit level. A/L passes in Geography and Govt. not acceptable.
  • UDU – as applicable to Accounting. (xx) GSU accepts NCE in a relevant subject.
  • AAUA accepts National Diploma (Upper Credit) in relevant discipline or HND (Lower Credit) plus UTME requirements.
  • NASARAWA accepts HND at Lower Credit, AIB or other Professional qualifications in relevant fields or IJMB in relevant subjects not below 10 points.
  • AUN same as in Finance
  • ABU accepts two ‘A’/L/IJMB passes in Management/Social Science subjects one of which must be in Economics. (xxvi) EBSU accepts HND, NCE/ND pass at Merit level in relevant fields in addition to ‘O’ level requirement. ND must be in Upper Credit level.
  • MCPHERSON accepts
    • JUPEB/IJMB/ATS (Final)of ICAN or approved equivalent in related disciplines.
    • AIB or other professional qualifications in relevant fields.
  • WELLSPRING accepts ND, NCE, IJMB, NABTEB A/L, HND passes at credit/lower credit level in relevant subjects/courses in addition to O’ level requirement.
  • ESUTECH accepts ND in a relevant discipline within the Faculty in to 200 level in addition to UTME requirements.
  • ABUJA accepts Two A level credit passes in Economics, Commerce, NCE or ND at Upper Credit level or 10 points in IJMB in relevant discipline in addition to the ‘O’ level requirements.
  • LAGOS requires Very good passes in three JUPEB/A’ Level subjects: Economics and any two of Financial Accounting, Business Management, Government, Geography and Mathematics.

What about cut off marks?

In general, Nigerian Universities allow students to partake in their Post UTME for Business Administration if they score a minimum of 180 in the JAMB UTME.
