How to Make Money Online In Nigeria This 2018: 20 Legit Ideas

Many Nigerians are eager to learn different legitimate ways to make money online. Some, however, want to do it the shortcut way. But it turns out the shortcut method isn’t so short, after all.

I must confess…

It’s appalling to see the number of search queries flooding google.com.ng—for terms like: How to become a yahoo boy?

Yeah, people actually search for that. Semrush SEO audit tool can attest to that.

Come on! It’s not that bad, is it?

First and foremost, I want to clarify the notion many youths in Nigeria have about making money online.

Yahoo Yahoo is not the easiest way out.

In fact, it is way, way more difficult compared to the 20 ways to make money online I’m about to share with you.

Why choose to make money online in legitimate ways?

Ask people that have been there long before now. The supposed target-audience are becoming much more smarter than years back.

Furthermore, the FBI in conjunction with the EFCC, has began to work with tech giants and ISPs to crackdown on people exploiting the worldwide web with smartphones and computers.

Arresting online scammers

Which makes Yahoo Yahoo extremely dangerous.

Every young guy with a laptop and doing well is now considered a G-guy by the NPF.

Phew! Those NPF guys can embarrass people, sha.

For non-Nigerians who must have stumbled upon this post by chance, let me explain what ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ is all about.

‘Yahoo Yahoo’ is the term commonly used to describe internet fraud in Nigeria.

So it’s surprising to know people are actually searching the web for tips on how to become a successful fraudster.

By the way, for those of you who think Nigerians are all fraudsters—it’s simply not true.

And I’m sure you know that deep within your mind.

I’ve seen a lot of abuse targeted at Nigerians in forums and publications.

Just so you know…

Nigeria has a population of 190 million people, according to 2018 estimations.

And just like every other country, you’ll always find miscreants among such a massive population.

The unemployment rate in Nigeria is what has caused some intelligent youths to showcase their smartness in the wrong ways.

Fraudsters make up just a teeny–weeny fraction of a population of over 100 million youths in Nigeria.

But unfortunately, that tiny fraction has been hugely successful—in such a way that sends bad messages to the world about Nigeria.

There are millions of hard-working youths in Nigeria, who are only seeking positive ways to make money online.

This guide is targeted at helping those hard-working youths get 20 smart ideas to help them earn a living off the internet.

There are several easy ways to make money online without involving in anything illegal.

You get to make a living from your multiple streams of income without having to bother about the cops.

How hard is it to make money online?

It depends on what online business you decide to involve in.

Some online businesses take a long time to grow. Some, on the other hand, can begin to yield positive results the very first day you start.

If you asked me, I’d say it’s not hard for me to make money online—because it didn’t take me long to earn my first dollar online.

And guess what…

It came from this blog.

I monetize this blog with Google AdSense and the affiliate products I promote. I don’t sell any eBooks yet, but it’s on my to-do list.

Not everybody succeed at online businesses, though. Some people venture into them and fail.

Yes…

People actually fail.

And the reason is that, there are a lot of misguided information on the internet.

Take MMM for instance. It came and drained from 80% of Nigerians to pay other 20%.

And guess where many people learned about MMM… On the internet, of course.

Most people who fell victim to MMM became pessimistic about venturing into any business online, ever.

That’s why many of the businesses I’ll be sharing with you will be free to start.

Yeah… You heard that correct.

Zero investments required.

You need a laptop and internet connection, though.

List of the top 20 online money making opportunities Nigerians must embrace:

1. Become a freelancer

A freelancer worker with an apple laptop

Many Nigerians want to make money online without investments, which is understandable.

Considering the economic situation, starting an online business for free is almost everyone’s first option.

Freelance sites provide you with the opportunity to make money online free. That’s why I’ve decided to put freelancing at the very top of my list.

I understand that many Nigerians are talented at one thing or the other, and freelance platforms are ideal places to showcase your talent and make a living off it.

Many Nigerians already make money off freelancing on some of the biggest freelance platforms out there.

Who’s a freelancer?

A freelancer or freelance worker is a person who is not tied to a job, but is contracted from one client to another on short-term basis.

Here’s how freelancing works:

Freelance platforms are mostly places to render and deliver products and services online.

Services you can render as a freelancer:

Whatever you’re skilled at (that can be rendered online) can be offered on most freelance platforms—whether their headquarters is located in California or Tel Aviv.

Your services can be:

How do you get started?

All it takes is registration with your freelance company of choice, which I’ve shared in another guide.

Fiverr is the most popular freelance marketplace on the web; but there are several other alternatives.

You can create a Fiverr account and a gig to start earning online in less than 24 hours.

I told you Fiverr is very popular, right?

Have it in mind that with huge popularity comes competition. So if I were you, I’d register with as many freelance sites as possible. Since you don’t know the one that will quickly favor you.

You can take a look on my guides on Upwork, Fiverr and Freelancing in general to help you get started.

Read as many as possible. You need all the right information in the world.

And don’t worry, most freelance site do not request for your school-leaving certificate.

So even if you’re still a student in school, you can get jobs online.

2. Become a vlogger on YouTube

Making money on YouTube is very easy. Ask Pewdiepie and he’d tell you.

I’ll give you a brief introduction into what vlogging on YouTube is all about.

YouTube is the second biggest search engine in the world after it’s parent company, Google.

Watching videos on YouTube

I’m sure you’ve visited YouTube a couple of times—to watch a couple of entertainment videos.

Just watching videos on YouTube without uploading yours keeps you on the consumer side.

If you watched a video and noticed banner ads popping up on different corners, then that video puts money in the pocket of the publisher.

Apart from ads, vloggers monetize their videos by promoting their own products or products of websites they are affiliated to.

But I understand that it’s not everyone that’s skilled at video editing. That’s why you need to take advantage of the free resources available on the internet.

Getting started on YouTube:

First you need to visit YouTube and create a channel. And once you’ve created a channel, begin to upload good quality videos that you know people around the world would love to see.

If you’re a cook. Well, that’s lovely. Just upload some of your nice recipes for the world to see.

If you’re a football fan like me, then, that makes it very much awesome. Upload those match analysis, football videos and highlights for the world to see.

If you’re an exceptional dancer or singer, then, YouTube is a place to make your voice heard or get your dancing moves seen.

There are billions of people on YouTube. You’d be surprised how many fans you’ll end up making.

Your videos need to be really good to get good attention from YouTube.

And I understand that it’s not everybody that’s good at video editing.

If you’re interested in making money on YouTube, but don’t know how to create or edit YouTube videos, then visit Brian Dean’s YouTube tutorial hub to get yourself equipped with all the skills necessary.

In that hub, apart from learning how to create and edit videos, you’ll also learn how to monetize your videos by tapping into different monetization strategies, including brand partnerships, affiliate deals, crowdfunding, and many more.

3. Start a gossip blog

How hard is it to start a gossip blog in Nigeria?

hmmm…

I’d say, very easy.

I’m sure you’ve visited Nigeria’s favorite gossip site, Lindaikejisblog.com—and you’ve probably noticed a lot of ads popping up here and there.

That blog is what I call a money-making machine.

Linda Ikeji monetizes primarily from banner ads from Google AdSense and selling ad spots.

Linda Ikeji’s blogging niche is gossip.

Gossip blogging for money

If you create a blog that talks about yourself, I’m sure very few people would be interested in reading those posts—especially if you’re not a celebrity.

But when you create a blog that talks about those celebrities, you’re up from some real trouble.

Good one, though.

Fans of those celebrities will storm your blog to read your criticisms and POV about those celebrities.

Creating a celebrity gossip blog

Linda ikeji started her own gossip blog for free on Blogger, and switched later to a paid platform.

You too can start for free if you have no money.

However, free comes with limitations. Remember when Google closed Linda’s blog, claiming she was posting copied contents.

So if you have small money to spend, then I recommend you start on WordPress hosted on Namecheap’s servers.

With a self-hosted blog, you can be certain no one will close your blog for any reasons.

WordPress hosting is very cheap on Namecheap. It’s the cheapest hosting company you can find out there.

You can also follow my free blog setup guide to create your first WordPress blog.

Getting started as a gossip blogger

Although gossip blogging is easy, it is also tricky. Always remember this: the gossip is not about you, it’s about those celebrities and their fans.

You must never take criticisms of celebrities to the extreme.

Target posts that can spark debates among fans of those celebrities.

And don’t think too local. You can get a lot of blog visitors for writing about local celebrities; however, writing about American celebrities will guarantee you good traffic and fans from not just Nigeria but from other countries too.

When your blog has started generating a decent number of visitors, you can quickly apply to Google AdSense to make more money from your blog.

Follow my AdSense step-by-step application guide and tips on quickly getting AdSense approved on a new blog.

4. Write sports review for money

People love sports all over the world. And guess what, the information is never enough. I’ve discovered myself reading multiple sports blog posts—all saying the same thing.

They had similar headlines, but I read them anyway. And that’s what many sports lovers all over the world do.

sports review website for money

This is what you need to use to your advantage, if you’re a sports lover.

Not all the sports are very popular, though. Football, boxing and basketball have billions of fans all over the world—while some other sports have only a few millions of fans.

Creating a sports review blog

The processes involved in creating any blog is very much the same. All you need to do is buy a hosting plan and install WordPress.

I wouldn’t start a sports review blog on a free blogging platform. Reason is, a sports review blog must wear every professional look possible.

Sports review blogging, however, requires skilled writing and creativity.

It’s not like the Linda Ikeji model of blogging. The writing tone used in gossip blogging is quite different from that of sports review or news.

So, if you’re gonna be a sports review blogger, then you must work hard to tush up your writing skills.

Improving on your writing skills is as easy as reading a lot of quality articles and writing regularly.

My writing ability was dead poor when I started blogging. It was after sometimes I started improving myself and getting better.

What should you review or report?

  • You can write reviews on other matches before and after they are played
  • Predict outcomes of football matches for people who love to bet on them
  • Transfer news and updates.

5. Take paid online surveys

Online paid surveys are increasingly becoming popular. But surprisingly, not too many Nigerians know about them.

Taking an online paid survey

To take paid surveys online, all you need is a smart phone and/or a computer connected to the internet.

Thanks to Glo and Airtel, data plans are very cheap nowadays.

What’s an online paid survey?

A paid survey is a type of statistical survey where the participants get rewarded through an incentive program or cash for completing one or more surveys.

How do you take paid surveys in Nigeria?

There are not too many paid surveys in Nigeria that I’ve tried—because I’ve not really had the time to verify all of them one by one—which is my next project.

Nonetheless, I’ll share with you tips to help you take paid surveys in Nigeria.

There are several international paid survey sites that Nigerians would have been able to register with and make money.

However, the refusal of PayPal to allow Nigerians receive money with their Nigerian PayPal account has caused a huge limitation—since most of those survey sites only payout with PayPal.

So, my list had to be slashed down to only a handful of International and local online survey sites.

Register with survey companies like:

After registering with them, you can begin to take surveys online for money. Register with as many survey sites as possible. It’ll increase your chances of getting more surveys—and consequently, earning more from survey sites.

6. Start a ghost writing career

A ghostwriter is a person who writes books, magazine or any form of article for people who are either too busy or not skilled enough to write for themselves.

If you’re a skilled writer, Ghost writing is a service you can offer to do online on several freelance writing platforms.

Becoming a ghost writer for money

Ghostwriting provides an opportunity to earn steady income with your writeup in exchange for letting someone else take the credit.

Dang it!

Why would anyone ever think of letting another person take credit for his work?

Here’s why.

You have excellent writing skills. However, you lack marketing skills and you lack the funds to hire a marketer.

You have a lot of good books you’ve written, that can land you to fame, if only there was a way to publish to the web, but you don’t have the resources to do that.

This is where ghost writing comes in to play.

Tips for becoming a ghost writer

  • For advice on setting your rates, see writer’s market pdf.
  • It’s advisable to set up a payment schedule based on key deliverable, such as signing the contract, delivering an outline, first draft of the first chapter, first draft of the manuscript and final draft.
  • Register through a freelance writing platform to ensure a safe transaction between you and your client.

7. Sell your books on Kindle

publish an eBook to make money on Amazon

I talked of ghost writing earlier; however, I understand that many writers will never get themselves involved in that.

Some writers find it diminishing to their status.

It’s actually not easy to write and let someone else take credits for it.

Sometimes, it’s not all about the money, but the popularity and pleasure you’ll likely derive from successfully writing and launching a bestseller.

I’ll introduce to you Kindle…

Amazon Kindle is a subsidiary of Amazon—the biggest eCommerce company in the world.a

Amazon kindle gives you the opportunity to self-publish your eBooks and paperbacks for free with Kindle Direct Publishing, and reach millions of readers on Amazon.

You can publish an eBook in less than 5 minutes, and your book will appear on Kindle stores worldwide within 24-48 hours.

This gives you an opportunity to earn money with ease from your creative writing.

After publishing, all you need is one or two positive reviews from people to endorse your eBook.

8. Build a micro niche site

A micro niche site is a blog that contains almost or all the information a user could ever search for in a narrow topic.

Unsurprisingly, Google happens to love micro niche sites—because even if they contain very few articles, those articles are enough to serve all the need of the targeted audience.

How do you get started?

Building a Micro niche sites is quite different from the regular way of blogging. You need to make thorough research on your topic of choice.

When you’re performing research on your topic, you need to watch out for things like:

  • How competitive that topic is
  • How many monthly queries the main keywords of that topic get.
  • How lucrative will that topic be?

If you’re able to gather enough positive data, then you need to get to work as soon as possible. I recommend you buy a domain from Namecheap to get 20% off now.

Buy a domain that matches the keywords of that topic. It’ll help Google to quickly understand what our site is all about.

A typical example of a micro-niche site is a site that talks about sim card sizes.

Funny, right?

Sim card sizes actually gets a decent amount of monthly queries on Google. I visited that site when I got into an argument with someone about what the size of a nano sim was.

That was the period when phones just started adopting the use of nano sims.

Just imagine how many people must have visited Google trying to know the meaning of nano sims when it was just launched?

And who knows what type of sims would get launched in the future and people will start making high queries on.

That person found a need and quickly met it. And as a result earns a good amount of money with his website.

I know you might be asking questions now like, what’s your own micro niche site?

Micro niche sites are usually confidential to most bloggers. If we tell people what our micro niche sites are, we’re only inviting trouble.

9. Become a freelance jobs Reseller

Reselling freelance jobs is another easy way to make money online. A freelance job reseller doesn’t work like regular freelancers.

There are two methods you can adopt in freelance jobs reselling.

method 1.

You know freelancers offer their services at a very cheap rate on Fiverr and other freelance platforms.

If you work in a very big organization, that gets a lot of petty jobs and you happen to be the one contracting workers and paying them.

All you have to do is charge your organization the regular cost required to carryout that job professionally.

Visit Fiverr or PeoplePerHour and hire quality freelancers that will do that job at a very cheap rate, and you get to keep the profits.

Good business isn’t it?

Method 2.

Method two requires that you be a freelancer. If you are a freelancer who gets a lot of orders and cancel them, you don’t have to do that anymore.

Many of the jobs rendered on Fiverr, upon the fact that we claim they are offered on the cheap, Nigerians will do them with all joy.

You can either hire a lot of helping hands of people you can see, resell the jobs you get to them for profits.

Another way to adopt method two is to register with a secondary freelance platform where you’ll be able to resell jobs for profit.

For instance, If you’re a freelancer on Fiverr, and you get a lot of orders, open a buyer account with Upwork or any other freelance site I get the jobs done cheaper.

You can read more about reselling freelance jobs on Fiverr in my other publication.

10. Create an online forum

Making money from online forums

A forum is an online discussion platform—where people share ideas, have fun and read messages in their favorite forum groups.

The most popular forum in Nigeria is Nairaland. Many Nigerians have accounts with Nairaland.

Nairaland makes thousands of dollars by selling ad spaces to advertisers.

Apart from ad spaces, you can promote affiliate links or sign up with AdSense to monetize your Forum.

How do you create a Forum?

Creating a forum also requires that you buy a hosting plan. I recommend you buy from BlueHost. The severs of Bluehost will be able to host your forum while it’s growing.

Forums usually command large traffic when they become popular; however, prior to yours becoming popular, you can buy cheap hosting.

When your site has become popular and attracting a lot of visitors, then you can purchase a VPS plan.

After purchasing your hosting, then you need to install a forum software on it.

vBulletin is one of the most popular free forum software on the web. All you have to do is install it on your Bluehost servers.

It’s not so techy, but may get you confused. If you need help, you can visit Fiverr to hire one of their freelancers to help you do the dirty work on the cheap.

Promoting your forum

Creating a forum is easy, but getting people to register on it is not so easy.

I advise you ready enough funds to promote your forum on different advertisement platforms, in order to quickly give it a bump in traffic.

Investing early will increase the chances of your forum becoming popular early enough.

11. Build a mobile app

Did that scare you? I bet it did… If you’re not a tech-savvy.

But it’s actually quite easy to build an publish a mobile app on Google Play Store. I’m planning to write a detailed publication on that.

When I speak of mobile apps, I’m not talking of an app like WhatsApp or a huge one that would require a lot of investments.

Your app can either be content-based or a small problem solver.

For instance, I could decide to build an app and share some written tips on how to get something done.

Even this post, I could create the app version of it that presents every section in an interesting way.

Once you have an app published on PlayStore, you can monetize it with AdSense or affiliate links.

See Google’s guide on creating and launching an android app.

If you have an idea, but not so good at app development, you can discuss it with a freelancer on Fiverr. Hire an app developer and let him know what you want done.

Freelance app developers don’t charge too high on Fiverr.

If your idea is good enough and implemented the right way, you’ll make a decent amount of money from it with ease.

Google play store has a huge customer base. So, the exposure apps published on it get cannot be overemphasized.

12. Become an affiliate marketer

Ever thought of making money while you sleep?

Yeah.. It’s very possible.

And on the internet, affiliate marketing is the secret to achieving that.

How would you feel when you wake up in the morning to see an Amazon income report like the one below?

Amazon associate report

what’s affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is an arrangement by which an online retailer pays commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

In other words, it’s an agreement you reach with online retail stores to market their products, in return for them to give you a certain percentage of commissions for sales made.

Affiliate marketing can be done almost in any legit way. You can market people’s product on Pinterest, Facebook, or even your own website.

How do you start affiliate marketing?

First, you need to decide on what products you can promote and how you plan to promote those products.

And when you decide upon that, you can register with any affiliate website of your choice and begin to promote their products.

For instance, if you’re a health blogger, or a weight-loss blogger, you can look for products that correlate with what you’re knowledgeable about.

Write detailed reviews on those products, recommending them to your audience.

In this blog, I’ve a couple of affiliate reviews that have earned me a few hundred dollars.

13. Build a coupon site

Building Coupon sites is affiliate marketing, but with a slight twist.

With coupon sites, you don’t have to add a lot of reviews or articles to your deals pages.

Coupon sites provide codes buyers add during checkout on eCommerce sites to get discounts.

That’s why, most people visit coupon sites to get codes to make purchases online at cheaper rates than usual.

Coupon sites also add affiliate links of whatever products they promote, and through those links, income is generated.

How to build a coupon site:

WordPress makes it easy to create coupon sites using plugins.

There are several free online tutorials that will guide you through the processes involved in creating coupons sites and earning from them.

First, and as usual with building a site, you need to buy web hosting and install WordPress. I recommend you buy from Namecheap for a start.

Thereafter, you need to purchase a premium coupon WordPress theme. You could browse the WordPress theme directory for free premium coupon themes; however, it’s hard to come across a genuinely free coupon theme.

Intermission

Every of the ways to earn money online I previously listed were a lot cheaper than the next ones I’ll be listing. Investing some money on your online business increases your chances of earning fast and more.

14. Venture into eCommerce

There are many developed eCommerce stores in Nigeria presently—and it’s fast becoming the most lucrative marketplace in Nigeria.

Many people are already taking advantage of the fact that Nigerians have started embracing eCommerce more.

What’s eCommerce?

eCommerce simply means electronics commerce. It’s an online platform where transactions involving buying and selling takes place.

The most popular eCommerce stores in Nigeria are Konga and Jumia. But then again, there’s Amazon, which is the biggest in the United States and in all over the world.

Here’s how to make money from eCommerce:

Method 1: Sell your products on already existing eCommerce sites in Nigeria

Sell on Jumia and start making money online

Jumia and other online stores in Nigeria allow merchants from all over the country to list their products—both digital and physical products.

If you’re already selling in normal stores, all you have to do is register, verify and list your products on Jumia.

People will be able to order your products online from anywhere in Nigeria—which will present you with a greater opportunity to earn more from what you sell.

Method 2: buid your own eCommerce store targeted at Nigeria

Did the sound of that scare you?

It shouldn’t…

It’s actually very easy to create an eCommerce store with WordPress. You will need to install an eCommerce friendly WordPress theme and WooCommerce plugin.

After a few settings, your site will becoming eCommerce ready.

If you’re not used to building WordPress websites, hire a freelancer on Fiverr to help you get it done.

Building an eCommerce store is easy, but promotion and getting people to do business with you is the hard part.

That’s why you must only venture into eCommerce business if you have enough funds to run ad campaign with AdWords and TV promotional to quickly get recognized nationwide.

15. Start an online sports betting company in Nigeria

Online sports betting company

I stopped being a fan of online sports betting after loosing several times; however, I must admit it’s a lucrative marketplace. Not for those that bet, but for those who run such companies.

In Nigeria, there’s a high rate of unemployment, and this has led to many Nigerian Youths becoming huge fans of betting.

There are millions of people who bet a daily basis, but a large proportion of the monies spent on betting are not returned to the investors, but to the betting company.

Bet9ja started only a few years ago; and right now, has become one of the biggest online betting companies in Nigeria.

It currently sponsors the Nigerian Premier League. That’s to emphasize just how much profit it has made.

Creating a successful online betting company in Nigeria

It’s gonna require a lot of funds to get started with such an online business. So, it’s not one you should be thinking of if you don’t have enough capital.

The coding involved in building a betting site is quite complicated; so you may need to hire pro freelancers on Fiverr to help you get it done.

And the moment your site is launched, you need to put in place crazy promotional strategies, both offline and online—to quickly get yourself announced to Nigerians.

Your promotional strategy could be offering freebies, bonuses and any other thing that can draw people’s attention.

16. Start your own web hosting business in Nigeria

web hosting business

Ever since it became Known to Nigerians that Linda Ikeji’s blog earns millions of naira monthly, the number of blogs being created in Nigeria has kept increasing every year.

This is how to use it to your advantage:

There are not too many web hosting companies in Nigeria. Which makes it easy to start your hosting business targeted at Nigeria and succeed.

And surprisingly, it’s not so expensive to start a web hosting company.

You can launch your own hosting business targeted at Nigerians with Namecheap Reseller hosting plan.

Purchasing a reseller hosting plan only takes a few minutes. The Namecheap team will take care of setting up your cPanel for free.

17. Become an SEO consultant

Online SEO consultancy servies

In a world of high competition between website owners to rank first pages in Google, SEO consultancy becomes a lucrative service to render.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. An SEO consultants help their clients optimize their websites in return for getting paid to do that.

How do you become an SEO consultant?

This is not something anyone can venture into, though. If you don’t have knowledge about SEO, you need to take courses online to develop yourself before moving on with SEO consultancy.

There are tons of online courses that will help you develop SEO skills. However, most of those courses are not free.

Becoming an SEO expert is worth your investment, so you shouldn’t mind the fees involved if it’s a reputable SEO

How do you make money as an SEO expert?

The first way you can make money online as an SEO consultant is by rendering your services on freelance platforms—which most people do.

You can also create a website—where you’ll render your services. This way you’ll get to keep all the profits you make from consultancy.

Another way you can make money from SEO consultancy is by joining an already established SEO consultancy firm—capable of linking you up with clients.

Through that firm, you can build a reputation for yourself, and get known by clients of that firm.

18. Sell online courses

Sell online courses

I talked about taking online courses to boost your SEO skills. How about if you’re the one lecturing people to help them develop a skill at something?

The sales you can make from teaching online courses is beyond measure.

There are literally millions of people who visit the internet every month trying add a new qualification to their resumes.

Building a platform to help them take those courses not just help yo impact lives, but also help you make good sales and profits.

how do you sell online courses?

First, you have to build a website that’s meant for that purpose. Build a good readership and gain their trusts.

Once you’ve gained their trusts, selling to them becomes easy.

The most basic thing website owners sell online are eBooks. Take for instance, after reading this lengthy article, If I decide to sell course materials that will help you become a pro at all of the ideas I shared with you, there will be a lot of people more than willing to buy that eBook.

Another way is to go about selling online courses is by adopting the Udemy way.

Udemy is an online platform that teaches almost all the online courses you can ever imagine.

How did Udemy achieve that?

First, you need to know that it’s literally impossible for just one person to be a master on several fields.

Udemy is an open source platform that allows trainers from different parts of the world to list their online courses.

The platform gets to enjoy certain percentages from the sales those trainers make.

19. Start your own freelance platform

start freelance platform

I talked of freelance platforms that connect freelancers with clients all over the world.

Guess what!

They don’t do it for free.

Many of them take certain percentages from freelancers’ earnings to make up for platform expenses.

Take for instance Fiverr and Upwork. Both platforms take a cut of 20% from freelancers earnings.

If you consider the amount of sales freelancers make annually, you’ll know that those freelance companies make huge profits.

Fiverr freelancers sell approximately $1 billion annually. If you do the maths, 20% of $1 billion will give you 200 million dollars.

That’s a huge cut to take for just connecting buyers with sellers. Regardless of that, the freelancers are still happy and more than willing to render their services on freelance platforms.

Freelancing is not so young anymore, but still young. Considering the fact that many people around the world still don’t know about freelancing.

That’s why I’ve decided to include creating a freelance platform among my list of online businesses.

How to create a freelance platform

The scripts used by most freelance platforms have a lot of similarities. So if you’re good at web design and programming, you can easily replicate those scripts and add a few customizations.

Just so you know, it involves a lot of coding processes.

If you have a lot of money to invest, you could hire the very best programmers and web designers to help you get the project going.

20. Create a social media platform

building social network

Yeah..

You head that correct.

Create a social media platform.

I wanted this last one to be a challenge to Nigerian web developers.

Seriously, we have a lot of intelligent web developers in Nigeria. And I’ve been opportuned to come across a couple of them.

We have always been on the consumer side in every area.

We import almost everything from other countries. We use social platforms developed in other countries, etc.

How about creating something unique to Nigerians. An epic social platform?

It’s not so difficult, by the way.

A team of good freelance web developers can get it one for you.

WE already have one, though, and it’s increasingly becoming popular.

Lindaikejisocial

Although Linda Ikeji is a popular figure in Nigeria, I feel like the URL of her website is not friendly.

Also, there is still room for the creative heads and people who have enough funds to invest into this business.

Wrapping things up

Most of the ways to make money online I’ve discussed here involve creating a blog or a website that renders a service.

In my opinion, blogging is by far the easiest way to make money online.

What’s blogging all about?

A blog is a micro site that’s updated on a regular basis—with reader friendly articles.

Articles in a blog do not have to be very formal; it’s not like a thesis or an official report, so remaining in a conversational tone is always the way blogging goes.

After creating your blog, use it as a platform for answering most of the questions people search for everyday on Google.

It’s as easy as that.

If you provide answers to the questions without answers on the internet, your blog will begin to attract traffic.

You can monetize your blog traffic in any way you deem fit.
