Man arraigned for allegedly raping his 7-month-old daughter from when she was 3 months old

A 38-year-old man has been charged to court for allegedly raping his seven-month-old daughter.

The police arraigned the man identified as Mr Simon Emeka before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate court in Makurdi, Benue State.

According to reports, Mr Emeka has been raping his daughter; Prosper Emeka, starting from when she was just three months old.

The case came up in court on Friday, 5th of June 2020.

The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Friday Kanshio told the court that one Ms Josephine Habba reported the case to the police.

He said on June 1st, 2020, Ms Josephine of No. 34 Modern Market Road Makurdi reported the matter at the Nigerian Police Force ‘D’ Division, Makurdi, Benue State.

The prosecutor said Habba had complained the same day, she had gone to Jestic Hospital in Makurdi with her daughter for treatment.

There at the hospital, she heard one Mrs Favour Emeka crying and telling a nurse that her husband had raped her seven months old baby girl named Prosper Emeka

It was alleged that the Mr Emeka had been raping the baby since she was three months old.

Kanshio said the accused was arrested for committing the crime which is contrary to sections 391 and 284 of the penal code law of Benue State.

Upon hearing the charges against him, he pleaded not guilty. Nonetheless, no plea was taken for lack of jurisdiction.

The prosecutor told the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested for another date to allow the prosecution to establish its case.

The trial Magistrate, Mr Isaac Ajim remanded the accused at the Nigerian Correctional Centre and recessed the case to August 31, 2020, for further hearing.
