A man identified as John Reagan Ngobi, 21, has allegedly burn down three churches in Uganda.

Reports have it that the 21-year-old man turned himself in on Monday morning at the Kire Division Police.

According to Citizen Digital, he was subsequently arrested and charged with arson and he is currently under detention.

He was armed with three brand-new knives.

An investigation into the matter revealed that he had perpetrated this act after saying that he is still poor even after all the prosperity messages being preached in church.

“I burnt these churches because of anger arising from the fact that these churches preach about prosperity but I have remained poor all throughout,” He said.

The churches who were at the receiving end of his fury were; St. Noah Catholic Church, which is in his village, God’s Tour Promising Church, and Liberty Church of Christ International.

The suspect who armed himself with three sharp knives in preparation for any opposition he would face from members of the church said poverty motivated him to do that.

“The poverty situation motivated me to buy two litres of Petrol and one of Paraffin, which I used to burn these respective churches,” he said.

Local leaders at Kosokoso village, located in Kira Municipality said Ngobi is a serial offender who is capable of doing anything.

According to the resident priest in charge of St Noah catholic church in Kosoko, Father Mathias Mulumba Kalemba, the fire destroyed almost everything in the church.

He said the fire destroyed nearly everything including his clothes, church books, wines valued at Ksh. 41,318.

“Satan tried to fight God’s places of worship through Ngobi, but we thank Him, He showed his presence and managed to overpower the fire, “said Pastor Vincent Bageya, of Liberty Church of Christ international.
