A Nigeria man and his fiancee have been arrested after the latter demanded and the former consented to the murder of a child.

The man identified as David Igbu confessed to killing the only daughter he had with his late wife so that he can take another wife.

Mr David Igbu’s first wife, Mary Adi, died in 2018 during labour. One week later, their should-have-been second child died as well.

Therefore, the man was left with just his first child, Gloria, which they had in 2013.

Igbu who an indigene of Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State fell in love with one Anita Abu, whom he met at Nasarawa State Polytechnic.

Eventually, Anita Abu became pregnant and consequently, Igbu became interesting in marrying. Thereupon, Anita allegedly made the ungodly request that he killed his only daughter before she would agree to marry him.

In the dead of the night of February 12,  2020, ‘convinced Mr Igbu’ to throw his daughter into an unused well. She accused the little girl of being the witch tormenting her with nightmares.

The next day, a neighbor who made an attempt to fetch water from the well discovered the lifeless body of the little girl.

After Igbu was paraded by a local vigilante group, he confessed to the murder of his daughter, according to The Nation.

He blames the devil

“I have since regretted my action. My late wife will never forgive me in her grave. I have betrayed her trust and love; it was the work of the devil,” The Nation quoted the man as saying.

“From the first time I met and asked Anita out, she had been complaining over the existence my daughter and just develop hatred for her. She regularly framed up stories about her. I regret buying into her devilish ideas,” he added.

Anita denies telling him to kill her

Anita, however, denied convincing him to kill the young girl, saying she only demanded that he sent the girl away from the house.

“I told him that if I must marry him, his daughter will have to leave the house because she always appeared in my dream each time I pass the night in her father’s house,” She said.

“Gloria may not be a human being, but killing her was not the best option,” Anita added.

He might not be the biological father of the diseased

Meanwhile, a childhood friend to Mr Igbu alleged that he is not the biological father of the girl, insisting that ‘no sane human being would kill his daughter’ for any reason.

According to him, the late Mary was 2 months pregnant when she married Mr Igbu.

“I know the details of what  happened but that is a long story and I don’t want to talk about it now because no sane human being will kill his daughter for whatever reason,” the friend said.

“Late Mary was a nice woman, Godly and hardworking, who loved her husband so much. In fact, they both loved each other but I don’t know what came over him. Even if you feel she is not your daughter, she is a human being and you don’t know what God has for her in life.”

“Some other guys were going out with Mary when my friend approached her and join the league. When she got pregnant, there was a bit of confusion as regards who actually was responsible. But she insisted it was my friend and out of love, he accepted it and got married to her. Later, we were hearing stories that he was not the owner of the pregnancy. All I want to say is that my friend and his late wife were the best of friends and there is no reason for him to do what he has done simply because of a new woman,” he added.

Igbu, however, denied the claims by his friend that he is not the biological father of the late Gloria.
