A woman in Nasarawa Eggon, Nasarawa state has burned the hands of her 13-year-old stepson. The young boy identified as Ovey Friday currently suffers immense pain and has lost all of his fingers, according to The Nations.

The young boy lost his mother, Esther, at a very young age and subsequently lost 2 of his older siblings, leaving just himself and his older sister, Salvation.

“Since your demise, my first two siblings have also left us to join you, and I now go about without hands – all my fingers, cut off by my father’s wife for no reason other than hatred.

“Sometimes, I feel like coming to join you in the grave, for life has no meaning to me anymore,” the saddened young boy was quoted as saying by the nation.

His stepmother, Mercy Jummai, doesn’t deny carrying out the dastardly act. According to her, the young boy deserves to die for continually making love to her in her dreams.

“He is an evil child who does not deserve to live. He is a member of a secret cult and eliminating his life is the best option,” The Nation quoted the heavily pregnant Mercy Jummai as saying.

The woman reportedly worked in line with the instructions of a witchdoctor who conviced her the boy was evil.

However, opinions from others suggest the boy isn’t as evil as his stepmother believes.

“Ovey is popular in the village; he is humble and respectful; he is a member of the St Mary’s Catholic Church choir and a class captain at Government Junior Secondary School in the community,” Joseph Envuladu, who is the head of Wulko, Sarkin Garin Wulko, was quoted as saying.

“How can you carry out such wickedness on a small innocent boy because he is the son of your husband? His mother died long ago and was buried before the man got married to you, so what is his offence?” he added.

According to The Nation, the suspect has been freed by the police while her husband remains in detention.
