In July 1959, the Nigerian Naval force became a full-fledged Navy after Queen Elizabeth granted it permission to use the title ‘Royal Nigerian Navy’. In 1963, after Nigeria became a republic, that title was changed to the one in it currently holds: ‘Nigerian Navy’.
Nonetheless, even after a change in title, the name for the ranks, colour and designs of insignias, along with several other terms remained the same.

Nigerian Navy salary structure according to their ranks:
Admiral — Earns ₦1,358,595 Monthly
Admiral, which is logically the highest attainable rank, earn a whooping ₦1,358,595 on a monthly basis. If this monthly salary is calculated according to the 12 months in the year, we’ll get an annual salary of ₦16,303,140. I’m sure that that got you salivating 😉
Vice Admiral — Earns ₦1,113,602 Monthly
A Vice Admiral, which a direct subordinate of an Admiral, earns ₦1,113,602 on a monthly basis. Also, if we calculate the annual income based on the 12 months in a calendar year, we’ll get a value of ₦13,363,229.
Rear Admiral — Earns ₦1,003,245 Monthly
A Rear Admiral is a direct superior to a commodore and a subordinate to a Vice Admiral. Officers that have attained this rank are entitled to a monthly salary of ₦1,003,245; which means, they get to earn ₦12,038,945 per annum.
Commodore — Earns ₦615,488 Monthly
Commodores earn a monthly salary of ₦615,488 — hence, if calculated based on the 12 calendar months in a year, their annual salary is ₦7,385,856. Commodores are directly below Rear Admirals and directly above Captains.
Captain — Earns ₦309,655 Monthly
Captains earn a monthly wage of ₦309,655, which has a value of ₦3,715,859 per annum. The Vice-Admiral rank is directly superior to a commander and directly behind a Commodore.
Commander — Earns ₦281,674 Monthly
Commanders in the Nigerian Navy earn ₦281,674 per month and ₦3,380,086 per annum. A Nigerian Navy Commander is directly below the rank of captain and is directly above the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
