If you’re interested in joining the Nigerian Navy, it always a smart idea to attend one of the Nigerian Navy secondary schools (NNSS) —in order to get all the basic academic and physical training needed for a successfully career in the military.

In this article you’ll discover all the Navy Secondary Schools in Nigeria, along with their locations, school fees, academic calendar and a few other interesting facts.

Presently, there are 7 NNSSs spread across several locations within the country. Depending on your preference, you can decide to obtain the forms for any of them.

Here are the 7 Navy Secondary Schools present in Nigeria:

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo (NNSS Ojo)

NNS Ojo was the very first secondary school established by the Nigerian Navy in 1982, and is located in the in Navy Town, Oriade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. Its primary goal is to provide quality education to children of present and retired naval officers within the barracks and other interested civilians.

Furthermore, the school provides boarding facilities for girls only. Which means, all the boys who wish to attend NNSS Ojo will be registered as day students.

NNSS Ojo follows the regular Nigerian Secondary School Curriculum & Calendar, and is currently a registered center for WAEC. However, it is still processing its application to become a center for JAMB exams.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta (NNSS Abeokuta)

NNSS Abeokuta was established on the 2nd of February 1991. Unlike NNSS Ojo, it is a boys-only secondary school. It is also a full-boarding school; which means, there’s no provision in place for students not interested in boarding schools.

NNSS Abeokuta is located at Adigbe, which is about 1km away from Ibara Post Office, Abeokuta, Ogun State. It is also about 78 km from Ibadan, 56 km from Shagamu and 77.66 km from Lagos.

Similarly, the school follows the regular Nigerian Curriculum and Calendar for all Secondary Schools, as assigned by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Port Harcourt (NNSS Port Harcourt)

NNSS PH was established on the 6th of April 1994, and is located at Harold Wilson Drive in Borokiri, an old suburb, 4.1 km from Port Harcourt metropolis, the capital of Rivers State.

In similar fashion to the way NNSS Abeokuta is run, it is a full-time boarding school. However, it provides room for both male and female prospective candidates. It also follows the regular school calendar and curriculum assigned by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Calabar (NNSS Calabar)

NNSS Calabar was established on the 4th of August 2006, and is located at Ikot Offiong Ambai Village of Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State, opposite the Nigerian Police Secondary School.

NNSS Calabar is a full- boarding school, with the aim of providing qualitative education for secondary school aged children of serving and retired NN personnel, other services and civilians. Furthermore, male and female prospective candidates are free to apply, since it’s not a boys-only school like NNSS Abeokuta.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri (NNSS Imeri)

NNSS Imeri is located at Imeri in Ondo State, which is about 85.4km from Akure, 44.8km from the ancient town of Owo and 39.2km from Okene, Kogi State.

It is a full-boarding school established in the 2012/2013 academic session, with the aim of provide affordable and qualitative education for the children of past and present personnel, and interested civilians.

Compared to other NNSS schools in this list, it is still very much young; however, it is expected to hit full potential and achieve a lot of success considering the heights attained by its predecessors in other parts of the country.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ogbomosho (NNSS Ogbomoso)

NNSS Ogbomoso is a Navy Secondary School established in 2012/2013 academic session, and located at Iresa-Asa, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. It is situated 49.2km away from Oyo, 90.5km from Ibadan, and 50.2 km from Ilorin.

The school is operates a co-educational boarding school system, with the aim of providing qualitative and affordable education for the children/wards of past & present military personnel and interested civilians.

Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Okura-Olafia (NNSS Okura-Olafia)

NNSS Okura-Olafia is a boarding school established by the Nigerian Navy, with the aim of providing quality secondary school education for the children of serving & retired NN personnel and other interested civilians.

Compared to other NNSSs listed in here, it is the newest and youngest of them all. However, we expect to see it attain great heights in the next few years.

The school is open to all prospective candidates — male or female — within Okura-Olafia, its environs, or any part of the country.
