Nigerians have faulted the FBI’s decision to make a headline on fraud centred around Nigerians alone. Meanwhile, there are other suspects from different countries on the list.
In their Twitter post, the FBI shared photos of the 6 Nigerian fugitives on their wanted list on Friday.
It captioned the photo, “Help the #FBI find six Nigerian nationals wanted for their involvement in business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulting in over $6 million in losses.
Read more about each defendant and submit tips at http://tips.fbi.gov. #FugitiveFriday,” it added.
However, on the full list of wanted criminals, there are reportedly 20 Asians, 39 Arabs, 16 Russians and more.
Apparently, the FBI ignored the other scammers and their nationality, even though they have a higher number of suspects compared to Nigerians.
But their point of interest was on the 6 Nigerian scammers who they also used as the headline of their report.
This did not go down well with Nigerians who took to Twitter to blast the FBI for continuing to parade Nigerians as if Nigerians are the only fraudsters in the world.
Also, they described the action of the FBI as racism. Noting that people from other nationalities do worse but they prefer to pick on Nigerians.
If you are wondering why ‘6 Nigerians’ is trending on Twitter, don’t anymore. This is the reason.
