A Nigerian YouTuber and Feminist, Ahmed Aderonke, popularly known as Rene Noire, has spoken against the practice of paying bride price in many African cultures.
Rene Noire who was previously married and now divorced doesn’t think it makes sense to charge a man for marriage. According to her, it should be illegal.
In her own words, “No one is paying my bride price ever again, that’s if I decide to get married tbh. If you pay mine I pay yours. Simple!.
The cost of bride price is high in Nigeria, especially in the south-east parts. Due to that, many average earners have to save up or even enter into debt for the sake of getting married.
