‘No Work, No Pay; ASUU Strike is Illegal’ – FG Says

Published on

The Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, has hit out at the Academic Staff Union of Universities over the recent strike they embarked on.

Recall that we reported that ASUU commenced a two-week warning strike over the non-payment of salaries of lecturers who did not enrol in the Federal Government Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.

Dr. Chris Ngige criticizes ASUU for going on a 2-week warning strike.

Ngige described the decision as shocking and corrupt, considering they didn’t give the federal government any mandatory notice.

“I am in shock. The strike is illegal because they did not give us the mandatory notice, Dr Chris Ngige said. “If you withdraw services and you still want to be paid, it is corruption. Is that not corruption?” The Punch quoted Dr Chris Ngige as saying after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

In other news, the University of Ilorin joined in the strike for the very first time in 20 years.
