Several high-profile Twitter accounts were hacked concurrently on Wednesday. They include that of Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, and even Crypto giant, Bitcoin, to name but a few.
The attackers used those accounts that mostly boast millions of followers to perpetuate a cryptocurrency scam.
The hackers shared a message urging people to send $1,000 in Bitcoin to a specific address, promising to double the contributions in return.
Popular celebrities also had their accounts hacked, including Kanye West and his wife Kim Kadarshian.
Apparently, they successfully fleeced several people out of money due to the fact that he tweets came from verified accounts.
Meanwhile, Twitter has promised to look into the issue that is currently taking their platform by storm.
“We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter,” The official Twitter support wrote. “We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.”
