A pastor based in Ondo State has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of one Ayo Olaniyi.

The incident occured at a village near Okeigbo area of Ondo state in March 2016.

According to reports, the pastor identified as Kolawole Samson used a machete to inflict injury on the deceased.

The late Olaniyi had gone hunting frogs together with three others at a fish pond owned by Pastor Kolawole.

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure had sentenced Pastor Kolawole to death by hanging. The ruling was presided over by Justice Ademola Bola.

Kolawole was found guilty of using cutlass to inflict injury on the deceased’s head who later died at a hospital.

Prosecuting Counsel, for the case was Mr Olusegun Akeredolu and Mrs Omotola Ologun.

The prosecutors argued that the offences were contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code; Cap 37, Laws of Ondo State (2006).

However, Pastor Kolawole pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In any case, Justice Bola ruled that all evidence before the court proved that Pastor Samson Kolawole was guilty of the death of Olaniyi.

The judge, therefore, sentenced him to death by hanging.
