Enugu State Police Command have arrested a woman and her husband for abusing and inflicting grievous injury on a 10-year-old child who worked as her housemade.

The police revealed that it received credible information at Enugu Area Command on 02/07/2020 at about 09:00 hours alleging that a woman in Akonameze Street, Thinker’s Corner, Enugu, inflicted degrees of injuries on her minor female ward.

To that effect, operatives of the Command swiftly moved to the area where they rescued the victim.

The young 10-year-old Nneoma Nnadi was visibly battered as a result of injuries allegedly inflicted on her by her relative, Ifeoma Ozougwu, 24, who she worked for as a maid.

The woman and her 40-year-old husband Jude Ozougwu were subsequently arrested.

According to the police statement, Ifeoma Ozougwu maltreated Nneoma Nnadi to the point of “using a hot pressing iron, iron rod, and nails to inflict several grievous bodily harms as well as inserting pepper into her private part.”

Meanwhile, the police released some helplines to enable goodwill citizens report such wickedness.

“To this end, residents of the State have been enjoined to remain law-abiding and promptly assist the Police with credible information that will help in fighting crimes against vulnerable children by calling the Command’s hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.”
