Several mixed reactions have been pouring in after Reno Omokri took to Twitter to blame Nollywood for making the world think Nigerians are fetish juju people.

According to him, aside from the fact that the world fears Nigerians due to 419, they also see all Nigerians as juju people

“I have been to many African and Caribbean countries. Once they know you are Nigerian, many become wary.

“Not because of 419. But because of juju. Nollywood has conditioned them to see all Ni Nightgerians as fetish juju people. We did this to ourselves!” he wrote.

He then went on to narrate how a fan refused to take a picture with him and Kanayo O.Kanayo for the fear that they will use her picture for juju.

In 2011, Kanayo I Kanayi and I were walking in San Francisco. An American lady recognised him. I brought out my camera, thinking she wanted a photo. She screamed and said ‘you want to use my photo for juju’! That is what Nollywood has done to us!

Finally, he wrote saying Nollywood should be called Jujuwood instead, as it fits more.

Based on some of the reactions, some people think Nollywood is indeed portraying what’s really happening in Nigeria.

Some, on the other hand, think Nollywood is exaggerating ritual killings and juju.
