A twitter user by name, Akorede Ayanbisi has taken to his twitter account to share photos of the sleeping condition of the student in the school hostel.
Judging from the photos he shared, it is expected that Nigerians will react because it is obviously not a good sight.
From the photos, It can be seen that all the bunks in the room are occupied and up to eight students were lying on the floor that is not spacious at all.
According to Akorede, the students on the floor are students who could not get bunks in the hostel.
The students have no option but to sleep there because they also cannot afford the rent for staying off-campus.
He said the rent money for staying off-campus ranges from 300k-700k per session.
This view is shocking, appalling and doesn’t speak good of Nigerian Higher Institutions.
With this sleeping position, a student going out to ease himself at night would have to cross over the other students.
According to the poster, the picture was taken at Jaja Hall, University of Lagos.
He accompanied the photos with the writeup:
“View of how we live in school hostel, and after all these struggles and suffering to get the degree, the labour market isn’t even assured. E go be.”
He said, “the room is dominated by squatters that have no other options because the university doesn’t have enough bed spaces to accommodate students.”
The room is supposed to be for just six persons according to him. However, from the picture above, there are almost double that number in the room.
The poster further revealed that he sleeps on a “slab” as no bed space was allocated to him.
He said, “Federal uni needs to do better.” Indeed!
In any case, Nigerians are reacting to this, one twitter user, Bamiyo said:
“abeg (please) tell me the kind of “innovative” thought that you think is likely to come from the space. I mean this is already psychologically draining & abusive to students”
Some twitter users have also confirmed this with their comments
