Several people contacted me recently trying to know the Science courses offered in Nigerian universities. As a result, we made a research and gathered a full list of courses under science departments in Nigerian universities.

There are around 170 universities approved by the NUC. Among them you’ll find conventional universities dedicated for the study of science-related fields.

But, first of all, what does science mean?

Science can be defined as “a systematic enterprise that builds and organises knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe” (Wikipedia). 

There are millions of young secondary school students in Nigeria who aspire to become scientists in future.

Thank goodness! There are over 100 courses science students can choose from. We carried out a research on several university websites to be able to gather the courses grouped under their faculties of sciences.

However, some universities in Nigeria do not group some supposed science courses under the faculty of sciences.

For instance, Medicine and science are separate faculties in some Universities, and that can arouse confusion for most students.

Nevertheless, Medicine remains and will forever remain a field of science.

As you can see from the list above, we were able to gather over 200 science courses offered in Nigerian universities.

Note: No single higher institution in Nigeria can boast of having all the courses above. In other words, some courses offered in certain schools may not be offered in certain others.

Subject Combination for The Science Courses in Nigerian Universities

There’s no general subject combination for all the science courses in Nigerian universities. In other words, universities in Nigeria have their respective preferences.

Therefore, if you’re interested in knowing the subject combination for your University of interest, we recommend that you consult your JAMB brochure or visit the official website of your desired university.

Science course to choose

It’s normal to be confused after seeing a list of over 200 science courses available in Nigerian universities, especially if you didn’t make up your mind — from the outset — on the one to study.

We advise you follow your passion, as we wouldn’t insinuate any course is better than the other.

However, we advise you check to make sure your university of choice is accredited to run any course you choose.
