What is a tech blog?

Basically, a tech blog deals with tech-related publications, ranging from products and gadgets reviews to tech-related breaking news. A tech blog attracts a lot of traffic since there are a lot of tech lovers who are always interested in seeing the latest tech releases or hacks.

As soon as it became obvious the monetary benefits a tech blog has in store, people became interested in starting a tech blog. The pie is however big enough for every tech blogger to take a bite from.

There are so much tech-related news, gadget and products launching every day. So, getting information to update your viewers with is not so difficult.

There are a lot of developed websites in the tech blogging niche. Websites that have really gone far in terms of tech-related writeups. Those websites have a lot of advanced copywriters at their disposal.

However, the audience your tech blog is targeted at plays an important role in deciding how quickly your blog starts attracting traffic

Tech blogs make money majorly from placing banner ads from Google AdSense, and other advertisement companies. They also make money from gadget sales of companies they are affiliated to.

If you are targeting an American audience, then you brace up yourself to face steep competition. However, If you are targeting Nigeria, you shouldn’t find it so difficult in some sub-niches. The reason is, tech blogging has not been exploited in so many areas.

There are some saturated tech blogging sub-niches in Nigeria too. So, you must not even think of settling for those sub-niches if you want to make a quick mark.

Sub-niches in tech blogging

There are so many sub-niches in tech blogging. However, only three are very common. So, this article is going to be targeted at just those three. Which are – products and gadgets reviews, tutorials, and tech news. Now, let’s have a look at each one of them.

1. Products and gadgets reviews

The products and gadgets reviews tech blog keep its audience engaged with reviews ranging from electrical appliances, phones, computers to every other technological gadget.

All you have to do is write compelling articles about the latest technological products and gadgets. Telling your audience how good those gadgets are and what they are to expect if they make purchases of those gadgets.

popular websites in this sub-niche are TheGadgetFlow and Engadget.

2. Tutorials/How-to blogs

In the tech blogging niche, you can start a how-to tech blog. However, tutorial blogs are not for beginners. It’s more suitable for tech savvies. The reason is, you can’t teach what you don’t know.

If you start a tech tutorial blog without a good knowledge about the work, you might find it very complicated to cope with.

Tech tutorial blogs come in different forms. Phone related (android, iPhone, etc.), computer-related (windows, mac, etc.) internet-related (web design, webmaster guides, etc.)

How-to blogs come in different forms: when you talk of how to do anything on WordPress, WP-Beginner and ShoutMeLoud are the most ranked in the world.

3. Tech-related news

Tech blogs in this sub-niche focus on updating their audience with breaking news or the latest developments in the world of technology. A blogger in this niche can aim at rewriting press releases and the latest updates from technological companies.

To succeed in this tech blogging sub-niche requires you are among the very first publishers of breaking news. If you publish news after thousands of other blogs have published it, you will find yourself down the pecking order.

A good way to start a tech-related news blog is to follow most of the tech-related companies on their official social media accounts. Also, you must always read blog posts from the tech-related companies you cover their news. following this method will ensure that you are among the first to see and publish news to your fans.

Getting started with a tech blog

Although the tech blog is highly competitive, the success path is really easy. If you want to get going quickly with a tech-related blog, there are a few things you must do.

1. Aim for lengthy contents

Like 80% of tech bloggers I know usually write very short descriptions on their tech reviews. As we all know, search engines give preference to longer articles. So, you must find a way to make your blog posts more lengthy than that of the average tech blogger. This is how you can stand out among them.

2. Aim for clarity

There’s a funny thing I have noticed with most tech tutorial blogs, many of them have a common problem of finding easy words to explain uncommon tech jargon. If you want to stand out as a tech blogger, you must create room for your average viewer who is not very much knowledgeable about certain technological terms.

3. Aim for quality

For you to get noticed, your blog needs to stand out among the numerous tech blogs offering the same tech news, reviews and tutorials. The quality of your articles, blog design and writeup has to be top-notch.

4. Aim at getting a good social media presence

The social media has a lot to offer to all those looking to make a lot of money from a tech blog. You must also know the basic qualities of all successful bloggers and work at developing those qualities.
