Nigerian musician, Gabriel Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has called himself the “Jesus” of Nigerian music, saying he set the pace for the present trend in the industry.

Terry G also known as Akpako master has been quiet in the musical picture for a while now.

He claimed that Nigerians have now embraced his kind of music. Saying he is the “Jesus” of the Nigerian music industry who set the pace and sacrificed for his artistic genre.

Terry G acknowledged that he was reprimanded because he smokes.

He was also criticised for his kind of music when he started his musical career years back.

Speaking to Channels Television on Tuesday, the “Free Madness” crooner said; “I’m the Jesus of Nigerian music, I’m not the Christ. Christ is the saviour.

“Jesus is a name, and for the fact that Jesus is the most popular name that died for us and sacrificed for us,” he clarified.

Furthermore, he said; “It took me a while to take this risk that a lot of persons discriminated against me for.

And now, they see people smoking, doing stuff and nobody is talking. There must be a pace-setter.”

Comparing himself to currently reigning Naira Marley, Terry G declared that it was not in his place to determine whether he was more influential than Naira Marley.

The singer said Marley is only trying to ‘archive’ him, although he sees both of them “making the world go crazier.”

Furthermore, he revealed that at one time in his career, he declined a deal with Sony Music; claiming that it did not pay.

Hence he charged Nigerian musicians to ensure they understand the details of every agreement before they sign deals.

Also, he urged artistes to make good use of their moment of fame, saying it does not last forever.

He said “When the lights are shining on you, do not think that they would be forever. My own fame was full of pressure, controversies”.
