A 25-year-old 500L student of the University of Port Harcourt has been remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre for his fraudulent deeds.

The student was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for acts of impersonation and extortion.

The EFCC arraigned him on the 10th of March 2020, on four counts charge,

The student, identified as Sunday Deele Noble has been remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.

He was remanded on the orders of Justice E. A Obile of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

The Defence counsel, F. E Enigwe, orally appealed that the accused be granted bail. The appeal was, however, opposed by the prosecution, E.G Omeje.

Justice E.A Obile, the presiding judge, ordered that the defendant be kept in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre while the determination of the bail application is ongoing.

The matter has been adjourned till April 6, 2020.

This is one of the counts read against him: “That you Sunday Deele Noble on or about the 13th day of February, 2019 within the Jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, did fraudulently obtained an iPhone 7 worth $319.84 USD with shipping cost of $14.69 USD through FedEx Shippers from Julie Fink and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.

However, The defendant, Sunday Noble, pleaded “Not guilty” to the charges.

The EFCC carried out a raid having gotten a useful tip-off of his alleged deceitful activities and Noble was arrested during the raid

According to the EFCC, “Investigation shows that the defendant presented himself as Ryan Murray, a Florida, United States-based contractor on Facebook, and used the false identity to defraud his victims – Julie Fink and Mary Real.

“Apart from the iPhone 7, Fink sent a total sum of $5,886.91 USD to the defendant.”
