Court remands 53-year-old father for allegedly raping 11-year-old

A senior Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered that 53-year-old Emmanuel Victor be remanded in prison for allegedly raping 11-year-old neighbour’s daughter.

According to reports, Victor is a widower who has two children. He allegedly lured his 11-year-old victim to an uncompleted building in their neighbourhood and forcefully had sexual knowledge of her.

The act was carried out on the 23rd of June, 2020 at 21 King’s Avenue Mile 4, Rumueme community, Obio Akpor LGA of Rivers State, at about 12 noon.

The prosecutor charged him on a one-count charge of rape. His plea was not taken.

Police prosecutor, Eteng Daniel, told the court that his offence contravenes section 31 (1)(2) of the Child Rights Act Law Cap 50 LFN 2003.

Magistrate Gomba-Osaro directed that he be kept in prison custody and his original case file be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal counsel.

Then she adjourned the case till 25th of August for DPP’s advice
