The Nigerian Football Federation has taken to its official Twitter page to remember late Super Eagles player, Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal who passed away on the 6th of July, 1991.
Fondly known as “Muda”, he was born on 8 June 1954 in Abeokuta and died in Ibadan at the age of 37.
“Today we remember one of Nigeria’s greatest players, Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal who passed on, on this day in 1991,” The NFF wrote.
“May his soul continue to rest in peace.”
Madashiru made his national team debut in 1975. The same year, he joined Shooting Stars F.C. of Ibadan, where he would play for many years.
Muda went on to become one of the greatest players in the history of Nigerian football after winning 86 caps and scoring 12 goals.
The late midfielder holds the record of being the only player in Africa to have appeared at five consecutive Nations’ Cup finals (1976–1984).
He guided Nigeria to its first African Nations Cup title, at the 1980 African Nations Cup.
