Nigerian rapper Vector has hit out at people who pray aloud in churches “believing God will hear them more”.

According to him, people only do that because they want God to answer them first, which he said is “selfish”.

Generally, Pentecostal Christianity encourages loud worships and prayers. Needless to say, that is far cry from what their Orthodox counterparts encourage.

Indeed, people have their preferences and are entitled to their way of life. Nevertheless, both sides often find themselves throwing subtle shades at each other.

It is not clear what denomination Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector, worship with. One thing that is clear is that he takes an exception to the popular loud ways of praying in churches.

“Why the hell do people shout in church believing God would hear them more,” he said.

“If anything, it shows how selfish we are cos the volume increases mostly cos the individual vuvuzela wants “God” to answer him/her first. That! My brethren isn’t Christian. That’s competition.

His opinion has attracted quite a large number of positive responses. However, some people have opposed his point, stating scriptural passages to back the need to pray aloud.

One Sheyii quoted Hebrew 5:7 which talked about how Elijah cried and prayed aloud, and it led to God hearing him.

Meanwhile, Vector received backing from one Mr AOP who quoted a verse in the scripture that said people should not pray to be seen by others.
