Not too long ago, Nigerian singer Naira Marley and his brothers were accused of car theft. This time, it is the “kukere” crooner.
Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly called Iyanya, has been accused of car theft by The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Ikoyi, Lagos.
The police reportedly filed a one-count charge marked LD/9024c/2019 on March 15, 2019. However, the singer didn’t show up in court despite the fact that he was supposedly given a charge and hearing notice.
The cause was said to have been adjourned six times, and the last one led to Justice Okikiolu-Ighile threatening to invoke the power of the court so as to make him show up.
According to reports, he finally showed in court on the 4th of February, 2020.
The prosecution counsel is led by SP Mr Chukwu Agwu, who accused Iyanya of committing the offence sometimes in September 2018.
Mr Chukwu alleged that the vehicle in question belongs to ‘The Temple Management Company Ltd, who was represented by a lawyer, Ayodeji Olomojobi.
Iyanya, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The case has now been adjourned till February 27 and March 17, for ruling on Iyanya’s bail application and the start of the trial respectively.
