President Buhari Names Amokachi as Nigeria’s Football Ambassador

The President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria has on Tuesday, 4th of February appointed former super eagles player, Daniel Amokachi as Nigeria’s ambassador for football

The media aid of the presidency, Garba Shehu, released a statement confirming this appointment.

According to Garba, he said that as Nigeria’s Football Ambassador, Amokachi will be shouldering a largely ceremonial role.

He stated that Amokachi will assist the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to scout for talents

Furthermore, he said that the new ambassador will be part of processes to revive the country’s football development as well as mentor young sportsmen and women.

Amokachi was a member of the Nigeria senior football team, super eagles, that won the African Nations Cup in Tunisia as of 1994

Also, in 1996, he was among the Nigerian Olympic Football Team that participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics that won the Gold Medal.

In addition to his national football career, he was an Everton player as of 1995 and won the FA Cup with Everton that year

Aside from being a player, 46-year-old Amokachi has a coaching career too; and after he retired from playing, he has coached Nasarawa United and Enyimba Football Club of Aba.
