The defensive midfielder joined the Turkish Super League outfit as a free agent last summer, on a two-year deal. However, he will not see off his contract after a dispute with the club.

Mikel Obi, 32, who racked up 19 appearances has been instrumental in helping Trabzonspor soar to the summit of the Super Lig this season.

According to a statement by the club, he gave up his remaining wages for the contract.

Mikel began his career with local club Plateau United, before joining Norwegian club Lyn at the age of 17 in 2004. Three years later, he moved to Chelsea FC where he enjoyed a blistering career.

According to the WHO, Europe is now the epicentre of the deadly covid19. As such, several leagues across the continent have postponed their fixtures to help reduce the spread of the virus. However, the Turkish Super League has not done the same.

The player earlier released a statement in which he expressed a lack of desire to play football in this current situation.

Clearly, Mikel Obi is more than happy to part ways with the Turkish League that has refused calls to suspend Sporting activities amid coronavirus worries.
