Buhari appoints Mohammed Umar EFCC acting Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mohammed Umar as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umar will be acting as the EFCC chairman in place of the suspended acting chairman.

Mohammed Umar is the Head of Operations of the anti-graft agency.

Abubakar Malami (SAN), The Attorney-General of the Federation, stated these on Friday in a statement by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu.

The statement reads in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Ag. Chairman EFCC in order to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards,” he said.

New acting EFCC chairman, Mohammed Umar

Mohammed Umar Bago is a Nigerian politician. He was born in Minna, Niger State, to a Nupe family.

He is a Member of Parliament for Chanchaga, Federal Constituency. He stands with the All Progressives Congress Party.

Umar contested for Contesting for Speaker House of Representatives of Nigeria in the 9th National Assembly.

The former EFCC boss was accused of several charges bordering on money laundering.
