‘Cornavirus spreads through the air’ – US Studies contradict WHO’s recent assertion

Recently, we shared a post curated from a WHO tweet claiming that coronavirus isn’t airborne and that when people cough or sneeze, the droplets are too heavy and, as such, drop to the ground quickly.

However, recent research by US scientists found high levels of the bug lurking in the air in rooms long after patients had left.

Studies from scientists at Princeton University, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and the US research agency, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealed that coronavirus may remain airborne in much tinier droplets – although not in significant quantities.

Another research which was carried out by scientists from the University of Nebraska researchers highlighted the importance of protective clothing for healthcare workers because traces of the infectious virus were seen in hospital corridors outside patients’ rooms, where health workers might have probably let their guards down a little.

Indeed, these studies are only preliminary and that explains why they keep contradicting themselves.

This recent research from US scientists might be the explanation of why so many people are becoming infected so quickly.

Scientists around the world have been working around the clock to understand why the virus has been so potent, infecting more than 785,282 people within quite a short space of time, despite many precautionary measures currently in place around the world.

In other news, the WHO urged people who have hoarded facemask to release them to healthcare workers who need them the most. At the moment, there is a dire shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health workers worldwide.
