The Italian man who was quarantined in Lagos because of coronavirus attempted to escape because of excessive heat and mosquito.

The 44-year-old Italian is currently at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos (formerly, Infectious Diseases Hospital). He fell ill after arriving in Nigeria. Subsequently, Lagos State health workers ran a check up on him after which he tested positive to the deadly Covid-19.

Thereupon, he was quarantined at Mainland Hospital in Yaba. However, according to The Punch, a source revealed that he attempted to run away from the facility because of the mosquito and the heat.

Meanwhile, the source also revealed that the man has continued to threaten that he would run away because of the poor condition of the health facility.

“The patient wanted to run away on (Thursday),” the source revealed. “The Italian man, who seems to be an engineer, was very angry that the room where he was kept was very hot.

“There is nothing the ward aside from bed and hospital locker. He almost ran away and is still threatening to do that.”

Furthermore, the source revealed that the state is not ready to tackle an infectious disease such as coronavirus.

The source also revealed some things that discredit the assertions of the deputy governor who insisted the state was have everything in control.

“The only thing demarcating the room from other rooms in the ward is a red and white barricade tape. That is where the Italian man that tested positive to coronavirus is kept.

“There is no single equipment inside that place. It is just like any other regular hospital room with a bed. That building you see that is being repainted is the original place meant to quarantine coronavirus patients.

“As you can see, the place is not ready. The state government is just renovating it, despite the fact that the virus started spreading since December 2019. It is really sad that a country like Nigeria is never ready to medically contain infectious disease outbreak,” the source added.
