“Fake Picture” – EFCC Denies Viral Horrible Detention Centre

Just a few hours earlier, a man shared some pictures on Twitter, accusing the EFCC of detaining people at a horrible location. The EFCC has now responded to that tweet by sharing a picture of the real Port Harcourt Zonal Office Cell.

The Economic and Financial Commission had to provide a response because the tweet was already going viral.

They shared a picture of their Port Harcourt Facility followed by the caption: “PUBLIC NOTICE: Picture of the Port Harcourt Zonal Office Cell The picture in the foreground is the Holding facility at the Port Harcourt Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. It is not an open-air enclosure and not bordered by any building,” the EFCC tweeted.

The statement then went on to refer to the picture earlier shared by TheRealDayne as fake.

“There is also no security wire mesh around the fence. This certainly has no resemblance to the fake picture put out in a tweet by @TheRealDayne. EFCC detention Centres subscribe to the best standard of care for inmates in line with global practice,” the statement continued.

If it were not so, suspects standing trial for corruption, would not prefer to be remanded in the custody of the Commission. Moreover, they would have challenged the Commission for rights violation,” the EFCC official Twitter handle added.

For now, the official statement appears to have quenched the questions many people were asking earlier.
