The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is responsible for conducting Nigeria’s biggest entrance exam, namely UTME & DE.

UTME stands for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam while DE stands for Direct Entry.

JAMB 2020 Cutoff Mark

Here are the cut-off marks for various institutions in 2020:

  • Private Universities cutoff mark: 140
  • Public Universities: 140
  • Polytechnics cutoff mark: 120
  • Private Polytechnics: 110
  • Innovative enterprising institutes cutoff mark: 110
  • Colleges of Education (COE) cutoff mark: 100

This mark is most times based on the collective performance of all the candidates who sat for the exam. In a year where the mean score is very low, then there’s a high probability that JAMB will choose a low cutoff mark.

What you should know:

The minimum score for universities is applicable to all states, federal and private universities.

Scoring higher than the figures above doesn’t guarantee automatic admission into your university of choice. The mark assigned by JAMB is just the minimum score. Institutions are at liberty to go way higher than the mark you see here for certain high-in-demand courses like Medicine & Surgery, law, etc.

In addition, many universities and polytechnics in Nigeria organize post JAMB / UTME, through which candidates will be reassessed for admission.
