Sadio Mane’s lone strike helped the Merseyside club see off Norwich City. That result means Liverpool have now mathematically qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
In other words, even if they lose all of their remaining league matches they will still qualify for the UCL.
Recall that the European football governing body, UEFA recently issued a 2-season transfer ban to Manchester City.
However, Man City have launched an appeal to help reduce or avoid the ban.
In the event that their appeal turns out unsuccessful, Liverpool are mathematically through to the UCL with 12 matches to spare.
Aside from that, there’s very little doubt that they will emerge this season’s Premier League winners considering the huge disparity between them and second-placed Manchester City.
The unprecedented success of this campaign has seen them shatter several topflight records. And they could as well shatter many more.
The game against Norwich was a hard-fought win, though, as they had to wait till the 78th minute to get a goal.
However, Liverpool enjoyed a larger share of the possession and attempts on goal while their opposition managed just one shot on target.
Overall, there were very few chances in the game as the league leaders managed just one clear-cut chance against their lowly opposition.
Liverpool’s next outing will see them travel to Madrid to face Athletico in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg.
While their next EPL outing will see them face 18th placed Westham United.
