On Thursday, Nigeria confirmed its first case of COVID-19 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital within the NCDC laboratory network. Due to that, several Nigerians have been unsettled. However, the NCDC has urged citizens to be calm.

The NCDC, in a tweet, revealed that they “are now reaching out to possible contacts” of the case in Nigeria.

The honourable Minister of Health, Dr E. Osagie Ehanire, made this announcement while briefing newsmen earlier today.

Furthermore, he revealed that the “patient is clinically stable” and doesn’t suffer any serious symptoms.

Currently, the patient is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.

The recent confirmed case makes Nigeria the first West African country to record the disease. However, Egypt and Algeria earlier confirmed one case each, making Nigeria the third African country.
