Nigerian/British rapper Ben Chijioke, also known as Ty, dies from Coronavirus at age 47

Nigerian/British rapper, Ben Chijioke, better known as Ty, has died from the deadly Coronavirus. He was aged 47.

Benedict Obioma Godwin Chijioke, popularly known as Ty is of Nigerian descent.

Ty died of complications from the deadly coronavirus. He was hospitalized and placed in a medically-induced coma.

His team confirmed his death on Thursday, May 7. Although it was earlier reported that he was recovering before his demise.

In April, Ty was hospitalized after contracting the fatal novel virus.

According to fundraising page, Ty was admitted to the hospital with medical complications relating to the Coronavirus.

He was subsequently place in a medically-induced coma; thereafter, he was put on a ventilator.

It was reported that his condition improved and so he was taken out of the intensive care unit to the normal ward.

In the fundraisers’ last post shared on April 19, his friend, Diane Laidlow said: “Hey guys. Just to update you that TY is now out of the intensive care unit and is on a normal ward. He is doing much better. Super excited.”

However, his death was announced and many stars have paid tribute on social media.

He first came into the spotlight in 2001 with his album spotlight ‘The Awkward’, his second album ‘Upwards’ was nominated for The Mercury Prize in 2004. 

Furthermore, he released three more albums with his final album being ‘A Work Of Heart’ released in 2018.

Just Last year, the rapper formed a supergroup called ‘Kingdem’ featuring rappers Blak Twang and Rodney P. 

TY has also worked together with artists like Soweto Kinch, De La Soul, and Roots Manuva. 

Tributes have been pouring in for the late rapper.
