Nigerian Senate Approves President Buhari’s $22.7bn loan request

The Nigerian Senate has on Thursday, approved the $22.7bn loan request of the President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmakers reportedly held a closed-door session, which lasted for about 45 minutes, after which they approved the loan application.

Meanwhile, reports have it that there were tensions during the initial deliberation which they eventually resolved.

The Nigerian senate president, Ahmad Lawan, assured Nigerians that the loan would be spent on projects that would impact Nigerian lives positively. Furthermore, he urged the committee in charge of the funds to make sure every dollar in the loan would be accounted for.

“We will ensure that no single dollar is spent on any other thing other than what is indicated here,” Channels News quoted Ahmad Lawan as saying. “The loans will have a positive influence on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of this country”.
